These shoots are hands down some of my favorites. I get to work with repeat clients, meet new faces and goof off with awesome families all day long. In all my years of being a photographer, I have realized one thing. Let kids be kids. If you try to force them into poses, the images look stiff. However, if you laugh with them, make faces and just be a goofy kid yourself, you can get some great shots of them being themselves.
We ended up shooting all of these at my house. So it had a very comfortable atmosphere that day. I felt like a bunch of new friends were coming over to my house to hang out, which is exactly what it was. These families got to see my house, meet my husband and my dog and see “my life.” I truly love my job. I like to let families be who they are and interact how they would at home. I feel like it makes the photos seem real. I want them to look back and think these truly depict how we are. Not a stiff stare at the camera awkward family photos image.
So to all my families that joined in on this shoot… Thank you. Thank you for trusting me and allowing me to take a glimpse into your lives. I am deeply appreciative for your kindness and willingness to let me do what I do best.
XO
Jill
